I would recommend all users of phpBB to update to the most recent version to make use of the image reading requirement on registration.

However, I have noticed that this still fails to stop people attempting to SPAM the "newest registered user" with their website URLs and attempt to post a massive list of URLs.

To help prevent this, please try these hacks:

Arrow Better Captcha
Arrow Block DNSBL Blacklisted Registrants
Arrow Restrict Guest Access
Arrow More security hacks...
